If this book was intended to apply to Old Order Amish, it fails miserably. Other than a few Amish terms, which were used throughout the book, the storyline was entirely out of character for the Amish. The vocabulary, the interactions, and the general tone of the book was completely non-Amish. It would seem that the author has very little knowledge of the Amish, wrote a romance novel, and tried to fit it into an Amish framework. I almost put the book away several times, but slogged on until the end. The "big secret" as to why Eli would not ask Sarah to be his wife, was not properly developed throughout the story, but rather just tacked on toward the end. Even just for light reading, there are too many discrepancies to make this an enjoyable read.Product details

The Amish Twins Amish Romance The Amish of Pride Book 1 edition by Emma Schwartz Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I liked Miriam's personality. This book really was annoying ! They repeated the basics over and over. We understood their feeling very quickly but I felt like the author wasn't sure we did. The same idea was repeated over and over. I am sorry but many stories I will read over next year or whenever but not this.
That mother suffered so much having to loose a baby and then 2 show up on the door step. Then to have them taken away when she was just getting over her hurt. Being so humble and respecting her tradition, she was not able to call out the man who would love her forever. I hurt for the both of them and their plight. This was a book that made me cry and captured my heart.
Sarah and Eli both carry guilt over their previous marriages, each one ending in the death of their spouse.
We keep hearing about a secret, what's the secret?! You have to wait. I really think it would have been better to know sooner in the story so that I could have really understood where both characters were coming from. Before you know the big secret Sarah just seems whiny and stubborn and Eli just looks like a jerk.
Bringing the twins into the story was heartbreaking.
Story line was good about the twins. But, the part about Sarah and Eli just dragged on. I wanted it to get to the point. Almost gave up on finishing it but wanted to see what happened with the twins.
Although I liked the story, there were a few things that I didn't care for. First of all, there were two babies, twins, who were found at Sarah's house. It seemed like everyone was holding and fussing over the boy, Samuel, and only holding his sister, Emma, on occasion. And, although the story was good, it seemed to drag on until I just wanted both Sarah and Eli to just grow up and get on with their lives. Worth reading, however.
When twins show up on the porch of Widow Sarah, who longed for a child with her late husband, and her Aunt Miriam they have no idea what to do. They take them in and begin to care for them the best way they can. They find a note in one of the baskets stating that the mother knows Sarah's situation and that she will care for Emma and Samuel. The sheriff is notified and begins a search for the mother but to no avail. Soon they have a routine down and Eli Troyer has brought over a crib and helps out also, perhaps as interested in Sarah as the babies? Will Sarah become too attached? Will the birth family ever be found?
I enjoyed this book tremendously. It will keep you turning pages till the end. It is well-written and the characters are very realistic in their actions. Having twins I remember those early days and how they can wear you out.
I agree with another reviewer---the story was ok, interesting. However, no book that is sold for money should have as many typos as this one does. I cringed each time I came across one. How did this even make it for sale? Example "He looked, as if he could be knocked over with the proverbial father." I'm halfway through and have come across at least half a dozen.
The other thing was that this is a romance novel with some visual references to Amish living and Amish words thrown in for good measure. The way the characters use words is not indicative of Amish. But, I enjoyed it nonetheless.
